Concordia Chamber Choir to sing at May Evensong

For our next Choral Evensong on 25th May we are excited to welcome the Concordia Chamber Choir from South London.

The choir was founded in January 1998, initially as an offshoot of the Dulwich Choral Society; the inaugural concert was given in Guys Hospital Chapel in November 1998 in aid of the Evelina Children’s Hospital Appeal.

Concordia is made up of approximately thirty singers from around the Dulwich area, and beyond. Initially conducted by Susan Farrow, and subsequently by Graham Ross, the choir is currently directed by Dan Ludford-Thomas, who began with the choir in 2010. Their repertoire includes anything from Thomas Tallis to Arvo Pärt and Eric Whitacre, via Cole Porter, Vaughan Williams and Britten. The choir has toured to Italy, France, the Netherlands, Germany, and Denmark.

“Greater Love” by Yotin Tiewtrakul premieres on 18th March

On Sunday 18 March 2018 at 6 pm the choir of the Anglican Church of St Thomas Becket in Hamburg is performing the premiere of “Greater Love”, a new piece for choir, organ, piano and two soloists.

The composition by Yotin Tiewtrakul, the choirmaster at the “Englische Kirche”, tells the story of Christ’s Passion with passages of John’s gospel but also through the eyes of the medieval English mystic Julian of Norwich.

Two well-known anthems by Thomas Tallis (“A new commandment” and “If ye love me”) are also part of the piece. Not suffering in itself but love redeems the world – this is the experience “Greater Love” wants to share with the listeners.

You can follow Yotin and the choir on the “Greater Love” Instagram page for regular insights into the work on the new piece.

While enjoying Christmas back home with her family in Hamburg she will be at St Thomas Becket for our family service at 16.00hrs on 24th December with her family and will sing ”O Holy Night” by Adolphe Charles Adam.
