Traffic disturbance tomorrow
The streets around the church will be closed off from 12 noon on Sunday 22 November in preparation for the memorial service for Helmut Schmidt on Monday in the Michel. Please leave your car at home.
Fund-raising concert for Ecumenical Forum, 20 November
Witthart Malik will be playing book 2 of J.S. Bach’s “Well-Temepered Clavier” on the harpsichord at the Ecumenical Forum HafenCity on Friday, 20 November at 7 pm to raise money for the Forum’s work. For further details see the Forum’s website. (St Thomas Becket is a partner in the Ecumenical Forum through ACKH.)
Bazaar this Saturday
Get your presents, Christmas food, books, raffle tickets and more at our Church Bazaar on Saturday, 21 November from 10.30 am to 4 pm. Bring your friends to our most important fund-raising event in the year. All the proceeds go to keep our multi-national Anglican community open and welcoming for everyone in Hamburg. November walk cancelled
Due to illness, the walk in Itzehoe planned for 14 November has been cancelled and rescheduled for December.
Ecumenical Patriarch and Archbishop pray for refugees
The refugee crisis, climate change and human trafficking were central topics during a two-day visit to the Archbishop of Canterbury by the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, who is based in Istanbul, Turkey.. The two church leaders held a vigil to pray for those caught up in the refugee crisis. They also issued a joint communiqué. Read more on the Archbishop of Canterbury’s website.
Wanderers off to Itzehoe
The next walk with the Church Wanderers is on Saturday 14 November in and around Itzehoe. We’ll meet at Altona at about 9:20 to catch the train. More details next week when we have researched the walk
Cakes needed for bazaar
Debbie and Madeleine will be on the cake stall again this year at the Church Bazaar and need lots of home-made cakes, scones, mince pies, cup cakes and biscuits. We hope lots of you are in the mood for baking goodies and look forward to seeing you at the bazaar – just bring your cakes etc along on the day – Satrurday, 21 November!
Bible Study at 7pm
Bible Study continues every Tuesday in the Chaplain’s flat (Englische Planke 1), from 7pm till 9pm. NOT 7.30pm as originally announced. Please let Clifford know if you want to attend.
Greek chaplaincy supports refugee centre
Bishop David reports that the Anglican chaplaincy in Greece is supporting an emergency centre for refugees at the remote Pharos Lighthouse on the Greek island of Lesvos. The project is being given funding by The Diocese in Europe and the Anglican mission agency Us (formerly USPG).
