Are you driving to Britain this Summer? – then please help make the Bazaar a success!
Please consider doing some shopping for some of the items which sell so well each year on the STB Bazaar’s ‘British Products stall’, and bringing them back with you to Hamburg.
On your return, you can re-claim the cost of your purchases, or you may prefer to donate the goods instead. Most items are not bulky or heavy, and each shopping bag full means a lot on Bazaar day!
For more information, and advice on what to get, please contact Nicki Schiller. If you do not have Nicki’s contact info, please email us at communcations@anglican-church-hamburg.de and we will get you in touch with her. Thank you!
Choral Evensong back this month
After our July break, Choral Evensong will be back this month. Join us for this traditional Anglican service on Sunday, 21 August from 16:00.
Do you have some time after church on Sunday, 7 August?
Christian is leading a group to weed the flagstones all around the sides of our church building, after the service this upcoming Sunday (7th August).
We are still looking for people to help and to bring implements if they have any.
Thanks to all helpers in advance!
STB at British Flair – come and visit, and/or help with our stand
This year Council have decided that as the Anglican Church in Hamburg, we should have our own stand during the three days of the British Flair event. Friday 26th, Sat 27th and Sun 28th August: https://www.britishflair.de/start.html
This takes place at the Hamburg Polo Club, a short walk from S Klein Flottbek. It’s a high-profile and charmingly anglophile event, which raises money for good causes too; so it offers us great opportunities, especially in this the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee year, for networking and mission.
Many of you I know already attend British Flair, and/or the Saturday evening concert: ‘Klassik unterm Sternenhimmel’. So, if you’re coming this year, please do make sure you visit the STB stand. And, Wendy Sprock can offer reduced price concert tickets for €25. Contact her directly: wendysprock (at) t-online.de
There is still opportunity to help on the STB stand. Should be fun! Please consider helping, and if you can do a stint, get in touch as soon as possible with Norbert Schoen (norbertwschoen (at) web.de), who is coordinating the rota for our church stand: thank you! We need 3 or 4 people during the whole time, signing up in advance, for shifts of a few hours. It would be good to have people of different ages and nationalities, so that we can show the diversity of STB in all its fullness. Please contact Norbert as soon as you can.
Booklet ‘Our faithful Queen’ now on sale at STB
In this Platinum Jubilee year, copies of this lovely booklet ‘Our faithful Queen’ are now on sale at STB (on Sundays and during Open Thursdays).
Euro 5 per copy.
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth ll is of course Supreme Governor of the Church of England – OUR church!
Heads-up: No Junior Church from 17 July, back in September
Our Junior Church team is going to have their summer break starting Sunday, 17 July, and all through August.
They will be back on the first Sunday in September!
Open Thursdays are back starting 7 July!
Our church building in Zeughausmarkt is there ‘7 whole days’ – so why not spend some time there on a Thursday this month too?
Every week, the building will be open between 11.00 and 15.00.
So, pop in and visit or take a quiet moment; meet a friend, or have a cup of tea, or bring your summer visitors to have a look around our historic building. There is also a short said Eucharist starting at 12.00 noon each week, and lasting 30 minutes.
Our chaplain, Jules, will need someone to be officially ‘on duty’ with her during these ‘Open Thursdays’, so if you can volunteer, please sign up on the list in church, or email Jules (chaplain (at) anglican-church-hamburg.de) with the date(s) you can do. Thank you!
Calling musicians for our ‘Family Services’
Our new Family Services which will take place on the third Sunday morning of each month, starting September (at least that’s the plan!)
Do you play an instrument / sing in a band? Would you like to take part in this more informal service, on a regular or occasional basis?
Repertoire will be varied, but include worship and children’s songs, as well as some more traditional hymns. Rehearsals will be on the day, at 09.45, just before the service, and we are especially keen to attract some new musicians. (Our choir and organist have 3rd Sunday mornings off!)
If this might be your thing, don’t be shy. Please contact the Director of Music (Yotin, music (at) anglican-church-hamburg.de ) or the Chaplain (Jules, chaplain (at) anglican-church-hamburg.de ).
Take the STB 20 Euro Challenge!
THE STB 20 Euro Challenge – PLEASE help your church this Summer.
What’s it for?
To have some fun and to enable each one of us to raise some money for church this summer.
How does it work?
Based on the Parable of the Talents (see below) you collect a 20 Euro note on Sunday 26th June or 3rd July at the 10.30 service. (On loan to you from STB.)
Then, YOU do something creative with it, to make this E20 ‘seed’ money ‘grow’ and bear fruit:
During July, August and September: involve your friends, colleagues, neighbours, family, wherever you are (people you know outside church).
Early October you bring back all the money you have made,
and we ‘harvest’ it to help STB.
The Euro20 Summer Challenge is based on the Parable of the Talents from Matthew 25:14-30.
In this well known Bible story, the master and owner of a property is going to be away for some time. So, he entrusts some money to each of his workers. (The coins he gives them are called ‘talents’) During the time he is absent, the workers use the money entrusted to them to make more money. So, when the master returns he is pleased with their efforts, and says: ‘enter into the joy of your master’ and “well done’. That is save for one, who simply buried his coin, and did nothing to make it bear fruit for the master.
In the Euro20 challenge, we are similarly entrusted with money from our church, and asked, over a three month period (whether at home or on holiday), to make it grow – in the service of our heavenly Lord and master, and saviour Jesus Christ!
Please join in, be creative and help your church!
