Hamburg is one of the most popular places in Germany for students.
With about 40 000 students the University of Hamburg is the largest university in the city and the fifth largest in Germany. It is a classical university
providing couses in sciences, social sciences, languages and humanities.
Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) is by contrast much smaller with about
5000 students, providing higher education and research in engineering and applied science subjects.
Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW) with 12 000 students
provides vocationally orientated courses for those wishing for higher education with a more practical focus.
