Ash Wednesday – Holy Communion and Imposition of Ashes
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the "Forty days and forty nights", a time of preparation for the celebration of Easter, the resurrection of Jesus. Throughout the seven weeks the Church walks with Christ through darkness into light. The Ash Wednesday services includes receiving the sign of the cross on the forehead. Just as Choral Evensongs are celebrated with treasures of English choral music in big Anglican cathedrals there is a contemporary music setting of an evening liturgy by the American composer Marty Haugen - just for the congregation with piano accompaniment.
