Holden Evening Prayer

February 17, 2016 @ 7:00 pm

Just as Choral Evensongs are celebrated with treasures of English choral music in big Anglican cathedrals there is a contemporary music setting of an evening liturgy by the American composer Marty Haugen – just for the congregation with piano accompaniment. It is called “Holden Evening Prayer” since Marty Haugen composed it while living and working at Holden Village, an ecumenical retreat centre in the Lutheran tradition.

This year the community of St Thomas Becket is celebrating this simple and short (20 minutes) evening prayer in the first week of Lent (Wednesday 17 February 2016) and in the first week of Easter (Wednesday 30 March 2016).

Here is a video with the music of the Holden Evening Service at St. Olaf College: Link

Today also our “Faith Pictures” Lent course starts. You are very much invited after the Holden Evening Prayer to go the the chaplains flat (Englische Planke 1A, opposite the Michel) for the first session with our locum Priest Tania Witter.
